And finally getting back to this with something being better than nothing. In the last few months my wife got a job in Christchurch, NZ, and we got work Visas, packed up our house, saw all of our stuff off to a warehouse in Denver, hopped on multiple planes, avoided getting sick while traveling (N95s ftw!), got to Chch, and are working on figuring things out.
Local cell numbers, bank accounts, waiting on a Honda Jazz to come off of the assembly line in Japan and make its way to us, $10 a gallon gas, getting a Metro card and using the bus (pretty helpful!), getting my first Ebike (which is great!), and now we are trying to find a long term rental now that we have an arrival date for our belongings in September.

Also, we have rented our house out back in the desert and now we will see how that goes. Being a landlord has not been a source of joy in our lives previously.
Ive started a job hunt and that is not looking overly promising to start off. Time will tell.
The whiplash of being somewhere where its cool and wet and cloudy in July when we are used to every day in July being blisteringly hot and sunny. Culturally the transition has been fairly easy. People for the most part have been very helpful and kind. Also, lots and lots of excellent coffee and pastries to be found. Quite happy about that.

Everything is either totally flat or extremely steep. Lots more mud and muck than we are used to and i think mountain/high country hiking will be much slower due to water crossings and muck than Colorado.

More to come as time and interest allow
